Legal English is different from common English. Just as lawyers in any country write in a different language from other people in that country, so do English lawyers. Sentences are often constructed differently in legal English. Many of the phrases used by lawyers are centuries old and not commonly found in common English. You will find that you will have to learn and practice new prepositions, and when reading business contracts or letters, there will be new technical vocabulary for you to understand on every page. This course is designed to highlight authentic, rather than artificial, legal context. Therefore, the emphasis will be on practical, real-life tasks and on candidates with a deep understanding of specialist terminology. The course also takes into account significant linguistic reforms in the English legal system and the continuing evolution of the legal profession towards a clearer use of English, as recommended in legal practice courses at all major UK universities and legal training centres.

Methodology
The course consists of group discussions, as well as individual and group assignments, in addition to written exercises and practice exams at the end of each day.
Course objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Use correct legal vocabulary and terminology when communicating with clients and legal professionals, and learn about modern legal writing styles.
Recognize common errors in English, and be able to identify prepositions and subtle conjunctions in a legal context, particularly in the context of written contracts.
The difference between the English legal system and the American legal system
Identify improvements in reading and text comprehension skills for legal documents and demonstrate accurate written solutions within a legal context.
